‘Russian American Gangster’ Bragged ‘His Boy’ Would Be President

How much of Mueller's investigation will extend to this shady and dubious relationship?

Mafia-linked Felix Sater is a guy that Trump has repeatedly denied knowing, since around 2013. Yet Sater keeps coming back to haunt Donald. Today we have news that Felix bragged that he would get Trump elected president with help from Putin’s team. The BBC would describe Sater as a “Russian-American Gangster,” but Trump doesn’t remember what he looks like…

“If he were sitting in the room right now, I really wouldn’t know what he looked like,” Trump said in a deposition.

Sater, a Russian immigrant became a confidential informant for the F.B.I. in 1998 after he pleaded guilty to stock “pump and dump” fraud schemes involving four Mafia families in racketeering lawsuits, depriving fraud victims of $40M in restitution. He managed to avoid jail time, though he served one year for the unrelated incident of stabbing a man in the face with a margarita glass during a bar fight.

In 2002, Sater testified that he pitched business ideas to Trump as part of the real-estate firm Bayrock company and that those ideas were “just me and him” and on a “constant basis.” In the Early 2000s, Sater also occupied a space in Trump tower directly below Trump’s offices.  The Bayrock firm was called “substantially and covertly mob-owned and operated,” by a former Bayrock finance director.

“I will get all of Putins [sic] team to buy in on this, I will manage this process,” Felix Sater wrote to Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen in late 2015.

Natasha Bertrand, a political correspondent with Business Insider, revealed this latest story including Trump and Sater in a Tweet:

The New York Times has the emails between Sater and Cohen, in which he said:

“Our boy can become president of the USA and we can engineer it,” Mr. Sater wrote in an email. “I will get all of Putins [sic] team to buy in on this, I will manage this process.”

Addressing Cohen, Sater states:

Michael I arranged for Ivanka to sit in Putins [sic] private chair at his desk and office in the Kremlin. I will get Putin on this program and we will get Donald elected. We both know no one else knows how to pull this off without stupidity or greed getting in the way. I know how to play it and we will get this done. Buddy our boy can become President of the USA and we can engineer it. I will get all of Putins team to buy in on this…

Cohen chalked up Sater’s comments to ‘salesmanship’ and ‘colorful language’ and refuted the idea that there was a trip to Russia. Business Insider reported that the Trump organization signed a letter of intent to travel to Moscow, but the emails don’t reveal evidence that Sater delivered on his proposals.

Sater did arrange a 2006 trip for Ivanka and Donald Trump Jr. to tour Red Square and the Kremlin. She denies meeting with Putin or sitting in his chair.

The proposed deal of a Trump Tower in Moscow hasn’t come to fruition. But what else might have?

It appears that Felix Sater and Trump are inexorably intertwined at this point. The question remains: How much of Mueller’s investigation will extend to this shady and dubious relationship? Sater is reportedly cooperating with the investigators, so the story will no doubt be unraveling before our eyes in the near future.
