Trump on The Future Of The State Department: ‘I’m The Only One That Matters’

Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State
In a Fox News interview, Trump suggests the future of the State Department is actually irrelevant.

Since reports were flying that Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson had reportedly called Trump an [expletive] moron over Trump’s apparent desire to ramp up nuclear missile production in America, there has been speculation if Tillerson would quit or that Trump would remove him. Tillerson has praised Trump since and insisted he isn’t quitting. But when asked about Tillerson in an interview with Laura Ingraham of Fox News, Trump makes it clear he isn’t so sure Tillerson will remain.

Ingraham noted that Trump’s State Department still has unfilled positions.

“Are you worried that the State Department doesn’t have enough Donald Trump nominees in there to push your vision through because other State Departments, including Reagan’s at times, undermined his agenda and there is a concern that the State Department currently is undermining your agenda, ” said Ingraham.

“So, we don’t need all the people that they want. You know, don’t forget, I’m a business person, and I tell my people, ‘When you don’t need to fill slots, don’t fill ’em,” said Trump. “But there are some people I’m not happy with there.”

Ingraham gets more specific about the State Department positions at risk.

“But Assistant Secretary of State, you’re not getting rid of that position?” asked Ingraham.

“Let me tell ya. The one that matters is me. I’m the only one that matters because that’s what the policy is going to be,” said Trump. “You’ve seen that. You’ve seen it strongly.”

Trump claims he isn’t filling appointments because of “cost saving.”

“Rex is in there working hard. He’s doing his best. He’s doing the best he can,” said Trump.

“Is he going to be with you there for the duration?” asked Ingraham.

“Well, we’ll see. I don’t know who’s going to be. Duration. I think that duration…I’ll tell you this: I don’t think any President, in nine months, has done the job that we’ve done,” said Trump.

Ingraham goes on to lavish praise on the economy, which Trump calls “one of the greatest in the history of our country.” Absolutely no credit given to Obama, as expected…

Trump points to the Dakota XL pipeline as one of his highs, though millions of Americans, environmentalists, and Native Americans would find that statement extremely odious. Trump continues to paint a picture for Fox News that he has accomplished more in his term than any other president. Yes, seriously, even as his approval rating is the worst in modern history, but then Trump is probably “the only one that matters” for him in that comparison as well.

There is some reason to think that Tillerson’s State Department is very much at odds with Trump. Tillerson’s spokeswoman, Heather Nauert, came out in very strong defense of the media for the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. She posted a statement that runs totally contrary to Trump’s stance of calling the mainstream media “dishonest,” among a host of other degrading insults.

We can only hope that more American’s become aware of the rose-colored, beer-goggle lens that news outlets like Fox News look through to portray the Trump administration. Though Rex Tillerson, and his connections to Vladimir Putin and their oil, haven’t endeared him to any liberals, it now comes as a welcome surprise that he may be giving Trump, and his boundless narcissism and deceiving rhetoric a reality check, if only slightly. At least he’s not a f*cking moron, in comparison.
